Echinopsis ‘Althea’ × ‘Vari Thai’ Variegated Cactus

Echinopsis peruviana ‘Althea’ × ‘Vari Thai’ is a rare variegated columnar cactus with powdery blue-green skin, sculpted ribs, and vivid lemon-and-gold marbling. This vegetatively propagated clone makes a striking centerpiece for a collector’s cactus display.

Plant care

• Light: Provide bright, filtered light or partial shade. In high-heat areas, use 30%–40% shade cloth and protect variegated tissue from harsh midday sun.
• Soil: Use an ultra-porous, fast-draining mix with 60%–70% inorganic material such as pumice, perlite, lava rock, or calcined clay, combined with 30%–40% cactus potting soil.
• Water: Water thoroughly during spring and summer, then allow the soil to dry completely. Keep watering to a minimum during winter dormancy.
• Fertilizer: Feed lightly once a month during active growth with a balanced, low-nitrogen fertilizer.
• Temperature: Protect from frost and temperatures below 40°F (4°C). Keep the plant dry in cool weather.
