About Indian Corn Cob (Euphorbia mammillaris)

This plant is a small, dioecious succulent shrublet native to South Africa. It is known for its thick, deep green, erect stems that are ribbed and covered in squarish or hexagonal tubercles, which give them a resemblance to corn cobs. In its monstrose form, it branches more extensively, creating dense clusters.

  • Sap: Like all Euphorbias, it contains a white, milky latex sap that can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions upon contact; handle with gloves.
  • Care: Thrives in bright sunlight and well-draining soil. Extremely drought-tolerant — water only when the soil is completely dry.
  • Spines: The stems are covered in tiny, spine-like structures that can develop reddish tones under sun or stress.
