About the Fan Aloe

  • Appearance: A unique, tree-like succulent known for its fan-shaped clusters of flat, tongue-like, blue-grey leaves. As it matures, it develops a beautiful, corky bark and a multi-branched trunk.
  • Flowers: In late winter and spring, it produces striking tubular orange-red flowers that are a favorite for hummingbirds and bees.
  • Native Habitat: Endemic to the winter-rainfall regions of the Western Cape in South Africa, where it typically grows on steep, rocky, well-draining slopes.
  • Care: Prefers full sun to light shade and requires very well-draining soil. Unlike many desert succulents, it appreciates regular water during the winter (its growing season) but should be kept relatively dry in the hot summer months.
