Mexican fire barrel cactus (Ferocactus pilosus)

The Mexican Fire Barrel (Ferocactus pilosus), also known by the synonyms Ferocactus stainesii and Ferocactus pringlei, is one of the most visually striking barrel cacti available.

• Appearance: Noted for its dense, bright red spines that contrast dramatically against the deep green barrel or columnar body. Often covered in numerous white, hair-like bristles.
• Growth Habit: Typically grows as a simple, unbranched barrel when young but can form large clumps of several barrels as it ages.
• Habitat: Endemic to several central states of northern Mexico, growing on rocky limestone hillsides in semi-desert environments.
• Care: Requires full sun for the best spine color and appearance. Thrives in well-drained, gritty soil and needs minimal water once established.
