  • The Original Grower: The clone is named after Bob Baker, a legendary, old-school cactus cultivator based in California. He preserved and propagated this specific genetic line for decades before it entered the wider collector market.
  • Physical Distinctiveness: While the "Landfill" father clone is famous for being incredibly smooth, fat, and mostly spineless, the maternal "Bob" line acts as the perfect genetic counterweight. It is highly celebrated for its extreme rib depth, sharp structural geometry, and aggressively fast growth rate.
  • The "Green Hornet" Connection: In many vintage collections, Bob's primary clone was nicknamed the "Green Hornet" due to its rich, deep emerald-green color (unlike the frosty glaucous blue of other rare cacti) and its prominent, needle-sharp golden spines

The Perfect Soil Mix
Standard potting soil is too heavy and will cause root rot. Aim for a 60/40 or 70/30 inorganic-to-organic ratio:
  • Inorganic (Drainage): Use pumice, perlite, or crushed lava rock. Pumice is preferred as it doesn't float to the top over time.
  • Organic (Nutrition): Use a high-quality cactus soil or aged compost. Avoid "moisture control" mixes.
  • The Goal: When you water, the liquid should run out of the bottom of the pot almost immediately.
Sunlight Requirements
The "blue" color is actually a waxy coating called epicuticular wax that protects the plant from the sun.
  • Intensity: They love bright, indirect light or morning sun. 6–8 hours is ideal.
  • Color Tip: If the plant gets too much intense, scorching afternoon sun, it may turn yellow or "bleach." If it gets too little light, it will stretch (etiolate) and lose its blue color, turning a dull dark green.
  • Acclimation: If moving it outside for the summer, introduce it to direct sun slowly over two weeks to avoid permanent sunburn scars.
Watering & Feeding
  • Soak and Dry: Only water when the soil is bone-dry all the way through.
  • Feeding: During the growing season (Spring/Summer), use a low-nitrogen fertilizer (like a 5-10-10) to encourage girth rather than weak, skinny vertical growth.
