The Colahuasi x Rosei 1 hybrid is an elite cacti that represents the pinnacle of columnar aesthetics. The provenance of this plant is tied to the historical Fields Collection in Victoria, Australia, where the "Rosei 1" clone was originally stabilized from seeds collected during the 1938-39 Blossfeld expedition to South America. By crossing it with the robust "Colahuasi" line—named after the famous high-altitude mining region in Chile—this hybrid achieves a unique balance of massive girth and deep, glaucous-blue coloration. It is a fast-growing, heavy-ribbed specimen that serves as a centerpiece for any serious rare plant collection.

Cultivation & Care Requirements
  • Best Soil Mixture: Use a highly inorganic, fast-draining mix. A ratio of 70% pumice or perlite to 30% high-quality organic cactus soil is recommended to prevent root rot while providing necessary nutrients.
  • Sunlight Requirements: This hybrid thrives in bright, indirect sunlight or approximately 6 to 8 hours of morning sun. While it loves light, intense afternoon sun can "bleach" its skin; providing some shade during the hottest part of the day helps maintain its vibrant blue wax.
  • Watering: Follow the "soak and dry" method. Only water when the soil is completely dry from top to bottom, usually every 2–3 weeks depending on your climate
