About this Rare Cactus Hybrid

  • Genetics:  A cross involving "Sharxx Blue," a famous Australian clone (Dawson's Cactus Collection) of T. Peruvianus, celebrated for its striking powder-blue color and relatively short spines. This was originally distributed and named by a member of the SAB community forum, PD, who named it after another forum member "Sharxx". Hails from the Matucana region of Peru.
  • The other parent, "Althea," is a recognized variety often used in high-quality hybrid crosses.  It originates from T. Peruvianus seeds, specifically from a US-based grower named "GeeBee" who isolated, cloned, and distributed it to the community. It's also linked to "Icaros DNA" seeds from the Wild Andes.
  • Appearance: As it matures, this hybrid typically develops a thick, ribbed columnar stem with a vibrant, bluish-silver waxy coating (glaucousness) that protects the plant from intense sunlight.
  • Growth & Care: A vigorous, fast-growing columnar plant that can reach heights of 4 to 7 feet or more depending on conditions. Thrives in bright, direct sunlight and requires very well-draining soil. Water only when the soil has dried out completely.
  • Hardiness: Can generally handle cooler temperatures than many other succulents but is best protected from extreme frost.
