Agave 'Blue Glow' hybrid, a popular and compact succulent known for its stunning color and architectural form.

About the Plant: Agave 'Blue Glow'
This hybrid is thought to be a cross between Agave attenuata and Agave ocahui. It is highly valued in landscaping and container gardening for its manageable size and dramatic appearance.
  • Appearance: It forms a beautiful, solitary rosette of thick, blue-green leaves. The most distinctive feature is the smooth, yellow margin that glows red when backlit by the sun, ending in a short, sharp terminal spine.
  • Size: The plant is slow-growing, typically reaching a mature size of about 1.5 to 2 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide.
  • Growth Cycle: Like most agaves, it is monocarpic, meaning it will bloom only once in its lifetime, usually after 10 to 15 years, by sending up a tall flower stalk before the main rosette dies. Offsets or "pups" can form around the base to continue the colony.
  • Toxicity: The plant contains sap that can cause skin and eye irritation in some people, and the sharp leaves can pose a physical hazard.

Care and Cultivation
  • Light: It thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Bright light helps maintain its vibrant blue color and glowing red margins.
  • Watering: It is very drought-tolerant and susceptible to root rot if overwatered. It requires infrequent watering; the soil should be allowed to dry out completely between deep waterings.
  • Soil: A well-draining, gritty, or sandy cactus and succulent mix is essential for optimal growth.
  • Hardiness: It performs well in USDA zones 8 to 11 and can handle a wide range of temperatures, from hot desert conditions to frost (down to around 20°F or -6.7°C).
This plant is an excellent, low-maintenance choice for a water-wise garden, rock garden, or as a striking accent plant in containers.
